Chew - Food as Muse

Opalka Gallery, Albany NY

A suspended dinner setting with interactive elements. In collaboration with Natasha Holmes.

Exhibition description: Everyone eats. Food is essential and we cannot live without its nourishment, and for most cultures, the  social connection it provides. For centuries, the content of what we eat has been muse for artists, both as subject and medium. Today, we find ourselves inundated with an abundance of food photos across social media. What’s our obsession?

CHEW examines the role food plays in contemporary culture. Twelve artists come together to explore and comment on identity, culture, community, environment, and politics through food as muse. From our fascination with it aesthetically, to its economic and political implications, to the role it plays as ritual, or in bringing people together… On the surface this exhibit is playful and relatable, yet below are the undercurrents of important issues to consider.
